FAQ's
How does a flower get selected to be Barth Daylily?
A plant will only become a registered Barth Daylily when both Nick and Jeff have decided that it has qualities that are unique or desirable. Sometimes out of nearly 1000 crosses a year, none will be chosen!

How do names get picked?
Names are chosen for either people/places that are of importance to the families or by the characteristics of the flowers, like in the instance of Little Red Treat

How close can I plant them together?
As a general guide: there needs to be about 3 feet between the center of both plants

How do I plant them?
Dig a hole twice as wide as the plant and a foot deep. Mix the soil with 25% organic matter. Place the plant where the "crown" (where the root system meets the foliage) is just above ground level. Fill in the hole with the soil mix and water it so that the entire soil mix is wet

If I plant them close to the road can it handle salt?
Yes! The road salt will not harm the plants

Are they deer resistant?
No, unfortunately deer do appreciate the beauty of the daylilies just as we do

How do I winterize a daylily?
You don't need to do anything to prepare it for the winter

Are daylilies good foundation plants?
Yes, they can be successfully used as foundation plants

Do I have to worry about bugs/pests?
Daylilies are very self reliant, however they can get slugs, thrips and aphids. You can pull them off or wash them off with a simple mix of soap and water

Will they grow in the shade?
While they can grow in the shade, the flowers will not be as prolific. The more sun they receive, the more flowers you will enjoy!

Do I have to water them?
They must be watered weekly the first season that they are planted (April to August) but after that it is unnecessary
